I live in Upstate New York and I have some minor experience in the martial art of Muay Thai. I am also a member of the combined martial arts club coming out of the University of Buffalo, and my column that you have read or may be reading will be for the most part concerned with the world of Combined Martial Arts, no so much mma or ufc, as mixed martial arts is now synonymous with, but the concept of bringing martial arts together in a functional way.
The concept of bringing together various forms of martial arts together in order to function in a modern environment is in actuality a very old concept. Most martial systems are based on such fusions and exchanges, but because the times are always changing, so must the martial system change to incorporate the needs of the present while still being true to the past. I am one of many constantly walking along the edges of the martial word, as I would say, “On The Vanguard.”
